Childbirth at a Crossroads The Status of Maternal Care in Southeastern Pennsylvania Maternity Care is at a critical juncture in our region. Read our research and recommendations from our 2006 Childbirth at a Crossroads report on maternal and child health. Five major findings affecting maternal health were identified: a diverse population; lack of access to care; a loss of practitioners and hospitals, inequities in health outcomes, and lack of cultural supports.
What's happened since we published the report? MCC has engaged in ongoing research around obstetrics units capacity and prenatal care access in Philadelphia Health Care Centers and Norristown. You can also read a report on the access for Medicaid recipients to prenatal care in all of Philadelphia. Women face an additional barrier in that their provider may not accept their insurance plan.
