Patti LaBelle
The Voice of Celebrating Mothers
We are pleased that Patti LaBelle is lending her powerful and inspirational voice to Celebrating Mothers 2008. A lifelong resident of the Philadelphia area, Ms. LaBelle cares deeply about her community. She shares her talent and wisdom with many causes that support the health and well-being of families in need.

Sing a Song of Motherhood
The centerpiece of MCC’s annual appeal is a Mother’s Day card with an original carnation-themed design, the campaign’s symbol. When you make a contribution, MCC sends this beautiful card to each special woman you designate. Click here to donate and send a card.

The 2008 card shows a lively troupe of dancing carnations cascading over a musical score. Like notes in a song, the flowers symbolize the high and lows of motherhood, ultimately blending in a harmonious melody.
MCC's latest Annual Report - Family Voices - inspired this musical arrangement. In the report, six clients of the MOMobile® share stories of how MCC made a difference in their lives.

Flowers, Tea and MCC
On March 8th Carolyn Smith and Diane Croce hosted Flowers, Tea and MCC at the Liberty Ballroom of the Philadelphia Marriott. The dynamic (Mom) duo are Co-Chairs of MCC’s annual appeal Celebrating Mothers, which raises funds and awareness to improve maternal and child health and well-being.
Event Co-Chairs Michele Hunn and Linda McAleer welcomed guests, and MCC executive director JoAnne Fischer spoke of MCC’s hope to strengthen families, one baby at a time. EILEEN FISHER sales associate Cliché James introduced her colleagues who were modeling fashions from the spring collection to help promote a special shopping event for MCC on March 29th at their Ardmore and King of Prussia stores that was a great success.
Board president Dale Allen explained how the annual appeal works. When a contribution is made, MCC’s send a beautiful Mother’s Day card in honor or in memory of the special women designated by our donors. The original carnation-themed design (the campaign’s symbol) was created by Alusiv, Inc., and was unveiled at the event, along with a television commercial featuring 2008 Honorary Chair Patti LaBelle.
Evantine Design’s Brain Kappra treated guests to a floral demonstration while they enjoyed a tasty assortment of sandwiches, sweets and teas. Guests also enjoyed a visit to the 2008 Philadelphia Flower Show “Jazz it Up.” Spring and jazz were in the air -- with music by The Steven Cain Trio and Mardi Gras style floral centerpieces, crafted by Evantine. Kappra’s floral designs, along with a Jazz Cruise and a Jamaican get-a-way jazzed up a lively auction, led by Susan Hagan of U.S. Trust, Bank of America. The event raised over $60,000.
