Celebrating Mothers 2006Philadelphia's Favorite Mother and Son Help Moms and BabiesCarolyn and Will Smith Lend Support for Celebrating Mothers Campaign
This year's Honorary Chairs are MCC's first mother/son team! We're very excited to welcome Carolyn Smith and Will Smith to our MCC family. In what has become a springtime tradition, MCC kicked off its Celebrating Mothers 2006 campaign at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Philadelphia Flower Show on March 11th. The now three-year old event has continued to blossom with sell-out crowds at two seatings. MCC supporters enjoyed a selection of teas, sandwiches and sweets – and were the first to see this year’s card design and a public service announcement, featuring Honorary Co-Chairs Carolyn and Will Smith. They then enjoyed a floral demonstration, auction, and a ticket to the world-famous Flower Show. Like the fabulous flora of the Philadelphia Flower Show, the campaign is in full bloom! The 2006 card design was unveiled on March 11th at Flowers, Tea and MCC. When a donor makes a contribution, MCC sends a beautiful card to a special woman designated. It’s a wonderful way to honor someone who’s made a difference in your life and help improve the lives of families in our community. Philadelphia moms and babies will get the help they need thanks to Celebrating Mothers 2006 Honorary Co-Chairs, Carolyn and Will Smith who will help MCC raise funds and awareness – to support MCC’s mission to improve maternal and child health. Carolyn Smith encourages support of the campaign, “I believe it takes a village to raise a child. When we support parents and garner resources to improve their lives - children grow in a positive direction, and we strengthen families and our community. Today there are far too many families raising children without the support they need. Too often, poverty and inadequate healthcare stand in the way of their hope for a healthy baby. This year’s design is a field of lacey carnations in sun-kissed shades of peach, pink, coral and red. Like motherhood, the image evokes feelings of nature and nurture. The layers of graceful blooms symbolize the depth and dimension of families and generations. One vibrant stem stands tall in the center, much like a mother with friends and family gathered around. |
