Economic Self Sufficiency Since 1989 the MOMobile has assisted families in accessing critical health and human services. In 1996 when welfare reform made cash assistance temporary and its receipt dependent on compliance with a new set of work-related requirements, MCC trained all staff on this massive social policy shift. Currently MOMobile staff help families make the best use of their time-limited cash assistance (TANF--Temporary Assistance to Needy Families), and take advantage of available training opportunities. In addition, we help low-income families (both working and non-working) receive critical non-cash income supports that improve their quality of life. These benefits include publicly-funded health insurance (Medicaid, CHIP, adultBasic); Food Stamps; WIC; Childcare Subsidy, and Earned Income Tax Credit. MCC also brings the voices of our constituents to policy makers at the national, state and local levels. MCC staff informs elected and appointed policy makers on how program policies impact participating families, and assist the policy makers to streamline policies in order to increase program-access for eligible families.
