The Early Head Start MOMobile®

The Early Head Start (EHS) MOMobile® helps pregnant women stay healthy and have a healthy baby. It also assists parents with very young children to take a lead role in their child's learning and development, to become their baby's first teachers, and to build positive family relationships.

Where do EHS families live?
Families expecting babies and/or with children under 3 are eligible to apply if their incomes are at or below the federal poverty guidelines and they live in zip codes 19145, 19146, 19147 and 19148.

What services does the program provide?

  • Prenatal education and support.
  • Parent support and parent/child activities.
  • Full-day child care for infants and toddlers.
  • Support for children with disabilities and their families.
  • Referrals for health care, social services, housing and food assistance.
  • Help with job training, GED, health insurance and public benefits.
  • Group activities and socializing.

What type of childcare does the EHS program offer?
The Center-Based Program is an infant/toddler setting where children are nurtured by loving and dedicated trained staff. Family-Centered social services are also offered to all participatiing families.

What are the Services to Expectant Families Program?
The EHS Services to Expectant Families Program provides home visits and a monthly prenatal group to expectant families. This early and continuous support provides the best opportunity for: healthy pregnancies and positive childbirth outcomes; supportive postpartum care for the parents and child; fully involving fathers in the lives of their very young children; and nurturing and responsive care during infancy.

What is the Home-Based Program?

In our Home-Based program, a MOMobile Family Advocate visits families at home. She supports parents in nurturing their baby, and, by fostering the baby's development, parents become their baby's first teacher. Family-Centered social services are also offered to all participating families.

Who guides the development of the EHS programs?
The EHS - MOMobile® programs are governed by the EHS Policy Council. This group consists of parents and local community leaders who work with the EHS Director to actively make decisions about the program. Staff members work directly with families and create partnerships with community agencies to help families get the services they need.
